When we set out on our trip around the world, I was nervous about finding plant-based food in different countries. I knew I’d need to make some exceptions and I often did. While some cities were easier than others, Lisbon was a vegan’s heaven.
If you’re planning a trip to Lisbon, here are some of my favorite places to find vegetarian, vegan, or plant based dishes.
Plant Based Food in Lisbon
If you’re planning a trip to Lisbon, here are some of my favorite places to find vegetarian, vegan, or plant based dishes.
FARM FOOD INK CAFE
This small Israeli restaurant makes falafels to die for—seriously, they melt in your mouth. The staff is so welcoming and helpful—they gave us samples to try and explained everything on their menu, suggesting their best dishes. I haven’t been to Israel yet, but if the food is anything like this, I may visit and never leave!
YAK & YETI
After watching sunset at Miradouro Da Graça, we walked past this restaurant, inhaled the most divine aromas and immediately turned around. We sat down without reading the menu or looking up reviews on Trip Advisor—the audacity! The food tasted every bit as delicious as it smelled. We tried a few other impressive Indian restaurants in Lisbon, but this was hands down our favorite restaurant in the city. I still dream about their curries and fluffy naan.
GRAÇA 77
For Portuguese dishes transformed into delicious vegan/vegetarian options and a wonderfully warm ambiance, this is the place. We visited on a rainy day and it was the perfect cozy setting to dry off and warm up with tasty food.
CANTINHO DO AZIZ
This Mozambican restaurant had mixed reviews on TripAdvisor, but we thought it was fabulous. We ordered the two main vegetarian dishes plus appetizers and were not disappointed. We enjoyed sitting outside and drinking their freshly-made sangria while waiting for lunch.
LE PETITE PRINCE CULTURE CAFE
This is the cutest little cafe with delicious coffee and pastries. They even have almond milk lattes if you’re missing American-style coffee. There’s something for everyone—vegan pastries and coconut chia seed pudding, or for dairy-eaters, this brie, fig, honey & walnut toast. Yes, it was as good as it sounds.
TIME OUT MARKET
The famous Time Out Market is a great one-stop-shop to try some local delicacies. Since the market is on every tourist-checklist, it gets busy, so we recommend showing up early to avoid the lines.
MERCADO DE CAMPO DE OURIQUE
Although similar to Time Out, this indoor market is less well known to tourists. That means prices are a little lower and lines are shorter and we thought the food was better too. The vegan sandwich and vegan chocolate tart were fabulous. And the wine…well, of course the wine was good.
JARDIM DAS CEREJAS
This buffet-style restaurant offered different plant-based food options weekly and is a wonderful way to try many distinctive dishes at once.
JESUS DE GOES
We heard about this small restaurant from watching Somebody Feed Phil and had to try it. They served Goan food with a twist and there were plenty of vegan-friendly dishes with intriguing flavors.
SANSKAR NEPAL
It’s easy to find vegetarian food at Indian restaurants, but we loved that Sanskar had an entire section dedicated to vegan dishes on their menu. They even served dairy-free mango lassi—the perfect fruity refreshing treat after a big meal.
Lisbon is a city full of diverse foods from all over the world. These are just a few of my favorites, but I am waiting for the day I can return to discover something new.
